‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / waḥdahū lā sharīka lahū / malik al-mulūk al-ʿādil / shāhānshāh Qawām / al-Dīn Abū Naṣr’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him. The just King of Kings, Shah of Shahs, Qawam al-Din Abu Nasr’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dirham bi Shīrāz sana thamān wa tisʿīn wa thalātha miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah. This dirham was struck in Shiraz in the year 398’ in Arabic).

‘ʿadl / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh / ṣalla Allāh ʿalayh / wa sallam’ (‘Justice. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. May Allah bless him and grant him peace’ in Arabic); citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Qadir billah (AH 381-422 / AD 991-1031) in the inner margin, ‘al-Qādir billāh Bahāʾ al-Dawla wa Ḍiyāʾ al-Milla wa Ghiyāth al-Umma’ (‘al-Qadir billah Bahaʾ al-Dawla wa Diyaʾ al-Milla wa Ghiyath al-Umma’ in Arabic); in the outer margin, ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih wa law kariha al-mushrikūn’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions, even though the unbelievers may dislike it’ in Arabic).
