Shiʿa kalima within a cartouche, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh Muḥammad rasūl Allāh ʿAlī walī Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. ʿAli is the friend of Allah’ in Arabic); in the margin, the names of the twelve Shiʿa imams in Persian, partly effaced or off flan: ‘ʿAli, Hasan, Hosayn, ʿAli, Mohammad, Jaʾfar, Musa, ʿAli, Mohammad, ʿAli, Hasan, Mohammad’.
Reverse
Within a central lozenge, ‘Shāh Ṭahmāsb zarb-e Astarābād’ (‘Shah Tahmasp. Struck in Astarabad’ in Persian); around, the king’s titulature, partly effaced or off flan: ‘al-sulṭān al-ʿādil al-kāmil al-hādī al-wālī Abu’l-Muẓaffar Bahādur Khān al-Ṣafawī al-Ḥusaynī khallada Allāh taʿālā mulkahū wa sulṭānahū ḍarb [94]8’ (‘The Sultan, the Just, the Perfect, the Guide, the Governor, Abu’l-Muzaffar Bahadur Khan, the Safavid, the Husayni.
