Within a square with knots at the corners, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); citing the names of the four Rashidun Caliphs in the margins, ‘[ba sidq-i Abī Bakr] – wa adl-i Umar – ba āzarm-i Usmān – [wa ilm-i Alī]’ (‘By the truthfulness of Abubakr and the justice of ʿUmar, by the modesty of ʿUthman and the knowledge of ʿAli’ in Persian); ‘1060’ (in Persian) above the word ‘adl’.

Within a square with knots at the corners, ‘pādshāh-i ghāzī / Shāh Jahān / 23’ (‘The holy warrior king, Shah Jahan. 23’ in Persian); in the margins, ‘[Shihāb al-Dīn – Muḥammad sāhib]–qirān-i sānī – [zarb-i] Sūrat’ (‘Shihab al-Din Muhammad, the second auspicious [king]. Struck in Surat’ in Persian).
