Within a circle, ‘Samarqand / dā ichlin / tāshlin’ (‘In Samarqand, inside [and] outside’ (in Arabic script); in the margin, ‘ḍuriba hādhā al-dirham bi baldat Samarqand bi tārīkh shuhūr sana thalāth wa sittīn wa sitta miʾa’ (‘This dirham was struck in the city of Samarqand in the months of the year 663’ in Arabic).
